Second Congregational Preschool

Second Congregational Preschool has been in existence since the early 1950's and serves as a community outreach ministry of Second Congregational UCC. As a licensed facility, the Preschool follows rules set by the State of Michigan.  With recent fire code changes, the Preschool has been required to install fire rated doors at each of the open stairways. A conservative estimate for this would be over

$31,000. Neither the Preschool nor the church has the money for this type of expenditure. A request to be grandfathered in as an established location has been filed with the State, and we expect to hear within the next month. With continual growth of daycare centers, public and private preschools in the Greater Grand Rapids area and the poor economy, the Preschool enrollment is at one of its lowest points in 53 years. All of these factors contribute to on-going discussion about the relevance, cost and continuation of the Preschool program. The Church Council, Board of Property, Christian Education Board, Preschool Executive Committee and Preschool Director Sue Blanksma are working for the best solution.                                                          ---Tom Cole, Sue Blanksma

Second Congregational UCC Preschool offers a quality preschool education; we provide a safe, loving, ecumenical environment for young children to play, learn and grow.  Creative activities stimulate curiosity and a life long love of learning.

Preschool is a time for fun, building a sense of security, making friends, exploring and discovery.  Preschool children are creative and receptive.  Our program strives to nurture and encourage these qualities.

The celebration of the seasons, holidays and birthdays are an important part of our curriculum.  Opportunities to help with trips, parties and special events are offered for the parents and family.  We maintain a food allergy safe environment.
