Board of Stewards

By now, you should have received your 2009 "My Gifts To God" pledge card. You have heard the wonderful stewardship moments from fellow members of Second Congregational United Church of Christ. The Church Council and Long Term Visioning Group have targeted specific goals for our future at Second Church. The 2009 absolute minimum financial budget is $455,000.

Everyday of the week there are numerous activities for Church members to share their time and talents. It is a comfort to reflect on how much God has given us and to enjoy the fellowship from the interaction with each other. Second Congregational UCC is a special place to worship and participate in opportunities that share God's Love with not only each other, but others looking for a church home. We can be proud of the bright light shining on our Church and the area.

October 19, 2008, is Stewardship Sunday. 2009 promises to be an exciting year. An elderly gentleman told me a long time ago, that ministers of churches are just passing through. The members of the church are the foundation and God is the cornerstone. Together we can help spread God's love in our community and the world.

Please prayerfully consider what part of the 2009 campaign you can support. Mail your pledge card to Church office or bring it with you on October 19, 2008, as we celebrate Stewardship Sunday. Please plan to attend the Stewardship Luncheon immediately after second service.

How to Simplify your Church Giving

Tired of writing multiple checks to the Church each month? Confused as to your status of giving because of vacations, trips, or illness? Simplify your life by setting up Second Church as an automatic payee from your checking or savings account. Sound interesting?

Here is how to set it up:

Contact your financial institution either "on-line" or "in person" at your local branch.

� Add Second Congregational U.C.C. as a monthly automatic
payee for the amount you choose:

(4.3 x weekly pledge, + MGH, Diaconate/Outreach donation =TOTAL $ amount)

�    Use the following as address, phone number, and contact person:
     ? 525 Cheshire Dr NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49505 616/361-2629 -
        Denise McDonald

� Select what day of month you would like transaction to take
place.

�    Call Denise at Church and let her know how you would like your
       total monthly donation to be divided (General Fund, Mending
       Gods House (MGH), Diaconate/Outreach, other).

That's all there is to it. No muss, no fuss, and each and every month your gift/donation will be sent direct from your bank account to Second Church. All it takes to stop or change the process is a phone call to your bank. You control everything and best of all, based upon the calls which I made to the six (6) largest local banks, this service is free!

(EXAMPLE)

Existing weekly offering/pledge: $50.00 x 4.3 = $215.00

Existing monthly MGH gift: $50.00 = 50.00

Existing monthly Diaconate/Outreach gift: $10.00 = 10.00

TOTAL MONTHLY PAYMENT $275.00

The only checks you would then need to write by hand would be for those "special - Second Mile" type of gifts for such items as: OGHS, Initial Offerings, Veterans of the Cross, Youth Fund Drives, and other Mission venues held during the year.

UPDATE ON

MEIJER REWARDS ?

Meijer just announced that they will now allow Second Church to earn .5% rewards on your debit purchases along with .5% rewards on cash purchases (no rewards earned on checks) and 1% on Meijer credit card purchases. Also, they have extended the re-enrollment period until May 31^st. If you need assistance in reenrolling, please come into the church office and I can help you. You can earn rewards at the Meijer gas stations, convenience stores, car washes as well as online and in the store. In the past, the church has earned $3,000 from these rewards which helps the general operating budget of the church. The church's reward number continues as: 409973. Please use this organization code when reapplying for your rewards card.
