Non-Perishable Food
Amidst our economic recession more people need food support than ever before. Thus, we have a food pantry bin in the narthex and invite people to bring non-perishable food each week or whenever possible. The food we donate goes to the NECM (North End Community Ministry) and UCOM (United Church Outreach Ministry) food pantries.
Juice Boxes
We collect 100% fruit juice boxes in the narthex. These go to Kids Food Basket, which provides sack dinners to Grand Rapids Public School children who otherwise would not get a meal after school.
Gently Used Clothing
We collect gently used clothing for In the Image, who gives it to people in need for free. This bin is outside the Drawing Room.
Back to School Supplies
Every August we collect school supplies (clothes, backpacks, paper, pencils, markers, glue sticks, etc.) to give to NECM, our North End Community Ministry, for children in the Creston neighborhood.
Christmas Collections
Each December we collect items such as mittens, socks, or underwear to give to people in need.
Loose Coin Offerings
All loose coins that are placed in the Sunday morning offering baskets go to missions. Every three months our Board of Christian Missions decides how to best use accumulated funds. In the past our loose coin offerings have gone to Senior Meals on Wheels, Mobile Food Pantries, Gilda’s Club, and emergency support.
Mission Envelope Giving
Persons wanting a portion of their offering to go directly to local missions can indicate this on their offering envelope. The Board of Christian Missions then uses this money for the Children’s Assessment Center, the Youth Mission Trip, Catherine’s Care Center, and the Ronald McDonald House.
Mission Giving with and through the UCC
We are proud to be a Five for Five congregation in the United Church of Christ. A portion of our congregation’s general budget goes to Our Church’s Wider Mission (OCWM), our UCC ministries throughout the state, nation, and world. Together, with our sister UCC churches, we are providing systematic change and meeting many needs. Each year we also invite members and visitors to give to special UCC offerings - One Great Hour of Sharing, Strengthen the Church, Neighbors in Need, and the Christmas Fund.
